Orton, Portsmouth. An incredible and rare CDV of a Magic Lanternist and his
Biunnial Lantern with a zigzag masking filter in place. The lantern sits on its
wooden carrying case. One never sees CDVs of this type. VG. $1000

PHCC10. "The Ayres Micro=Photograph. Smaller than the head of a pin. Yet,
appearing Cabinet Size. Your own, or any picture to order, in Charms, Bangles,
&c. Ask to see specimens." Very odd cabinet advertising Cabinet Card for a
miniature photographic process that could be used in Stanhopes. Similar to the
previous card but this has a sign in the image "Your Purchase Amounts to $75.00
cts." The image is of an early cash register. On back in pencil is written
"Farber's Cash Register." VG. $350

PHCDV26. Collection of 9 CDVs of the McAllister Family. For a detailed
history of this family that played such an important role in the manufacturing
and retailing of optical equipment in the early days of photography please see

The Library Company of Philadelphia website. This lot includes CDVs of John
McAllister Jr. (1786-1877); John A. McAllister (1822-1896); William Y.
McAllister (1812-1896); Mrs. J.A. McAllister; Anna McAllister; Mrs. Eliza Young
McAllister (1790-1853), wife of John McAllister Jr.; Agnes Y. McAllister
(1817-1879); William Mitchell McAllister (1843-1912); and a CDV of John
McAllister Jr. from a Miniature painted by Wm. A.C. Peale in 1809. 2 of the
images are by McAllister & Brother, Opticians; 2 by F. Gutekunst; 2 by Schreiber
& Son; 1 by Broadbent & Co.; and 2 without backmarks. VG. $1500

PHCDV29. H. Courtney's Excelsior Photograph Rooms, Millersburg, Ohio. This
lot consists of 11 CDVs by Courtney. The first CDV shows him posed with his
daguerreian box camera. The second CDV is identified as "Robert Courtney," and
given the similarity in looks between this older gentleman and the younger
photographer, I would bet this is his father. The additional 9 cdvs represent
other work by Courtney. Five of these images have the H. Courtney backmark and 4
have the backmark of Courtney & Appleton. These latter 4 are clearly later
images. The CDV of Courtney with his camera is VG; the other images range from
G-VG, with some trimmed as shown. $850


PHCDV30. Mears' Photograph Rooms, Swanton, Vt. In pencil on verso I believe
is written "A Jews' store in Vermont." !!! A CDV of Jewett & Janes store with
Mears' Photograph Rooms on the second floor. The entrance to the gallery is at
the left of the image, up the steps, and one can see photograph displays on the
wall nearby. G. $300


PHCDV32. "Silas Parmelee, Photographer," written on verso. This photographer
was located in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. Image shows the Photographer's
Gallery sign with a horse sled out front. There are chemical bottles on a
platform outside the window. On back is written "Center St. W.L. opposite Horton
House. Caption identified by M.S.E. Horton." VG. $350
