Contrary to the popular understanding of the title of this view, this is not the scalp from the head of Little Crow but rather it is the scalp that Little Crow had mounted on his war staff that he carried with him. Ebell was a member of the Rev. Stephen Riggs's escape party, Aug. 21, 1862. While there are many images related to this massacre in which 700-800 settlers were killed, this is the only known image taken during the uprising. VG. $850
