This view comes with a handwritten letter from the renowned collector and author William C. Darrah on his stationary. The letter is in response to an inquiry having to do with this stereoview. Here is the text: "December 4, 1973. Mr. Walter Stolwein, 5211 Roosevelt St., Bethesda, Md. 20014. Dear Mr. Stolwein: I am sorry it has taken so long for me to attend to your inquiry about the Carter stereo view of Utah (Brigham Young's Residence). The card is about 1872, the curvature is accidental, the card was originally flat. These cards are very desirable and sought for but are not really rare. Fine copies at auction have brought $3, priced catalogues several years old list it at $2 to $3. Carter operated for more than 25 years. At any rate it is a fine addition to your collection. You must have found other interesting items too. Prices of stereo views are in a state of flux and confusion. The present demand has stimulated very high auction bidding and unjustifiably high prices by many dealers. The trend for the past 7 or 8 years has been up. The prices listed in my Stereoviews are obsolete, of course. U.S. views are about double, foreign up about 50%. In some categories, still higher. With best wishes, Sincerely, W.C. Darrah." VG. $125
