Amb20.
Half-plate ambrotype of gentleman in beautiful black oval frame. Image measures about 7" x 6" from impression through paper on back of frame although I can't be sure of the actual size as the frame is professional sealed. The actual image size that appears in the frame is 4 1/2" x 3 1/4." The overall frame is 12" x 10." There is a small partial crack on the inner circle at the bottom of the frame that is barely noticeable; otherwise it is in beautiful shape. Wire attached at back for hanging. (5550) $195

Amb29.
Sixth-plate ambrotype of a Native-American woman and her child. There is damage to the image at the right side as shown in the scan. The image came housed in a half leather case with "Mrs. Nancy Patterson, Coultersville, Brule Co., Pa. Full ???" Unfortunately I can't make any sense of the last word, maybe "siji"? which makes no sense. As they say, it is what it is, a rare ambrotype of a native-american mother and child. Fair. $350

Amb63.
Isaac Rehn, Philadelphia. Stereoscopic Ambrotype measuring 3 .25" x 4.25" of a gentleman seated with his arm on a table, an empty chair by his side. This is in a "Mascher's Improved Stereoscope" viewing case. The mat with double oval windows has "Ambrotype by Rehn" in the lower left corner and  "Patent  July 4th & 11th 1854" in the lower right corner. The viewing panel has very clear gilded lettering for Mascher's patent, March 8th 1853. Lifting the viewing panel exposes a rich gilded advertisement which reads as follows: "Stereoscopic Ambrotype Picture, Surpassing any thing for Depth, Clearness, and RELIEF, which the Art has yet produced. Also Ambrotype & Mezzograph pictures taken at The Gallery of Photography by Isaac Rehn, No. 126 Arch Street, above Sixth, South side, Philadelphia." Rehn is one of the most interesting figures of this ambrotype era. He was responsible for patenting the process, along with Cutting, although others had paved the way. He was very active in the spiritualist movement, and the spiritualists connected the luminous process of the ambrotype with spiritualism. They were especially fascinated with his stereoscopic ambrotypes.  This is an excellent example of the Mascher case, and the Rehn process used in an outstanding stereoscopic image. The case has minimal wear, hinges and clasps intact and strong. $925

Third ambro is a young man in a military or cadet uniform. He is identified by writing behind the image on the case: "25-13th March W.B. Barnes 1862." Fourth image is of another young woman.
